NEW DELHI -- India has sought intervention of the United Nations on the release of Mumbai terror attack mastermind and LeT commander Zaki-ur Rehman Lakhvi in Pakistan. New Delhi has requested that the matter of his release should be raised with Islamabad.
India has said that Lakhvi's release was in violation of the norms of the United Nations.
In a letter to the current Chair of the UN Sanctions Committee Jim McLay, India's envoy to the United Nations Asoke Mukerji said Lakhvi's release by a Pakistan court was in violation of the 1267 UN resolution dealing with designated entities and individuals.
The sanctions measures apply to designated individuals and entities associated with terror groups including Al-Qaeda and LeT, wherever located.
