15 Members Of Marriage Party, Including Bride And Groom, Killed In Bengal

ALIPURDUAR — Fifteen members of a marriage party, including the bride and the groom, were killed and three others injured when their vehicle collided with a truck on National Highway 31 near Madarihat in this district today.

The vehicle, carrying a marriage party, was coming from Birpara after the marriage ceremony and collided with the truck coming from the opposite direction this morning, Superintendent of Police Akash Meghariya said.

While 12 people, including the bride and groom, died on the spot, six were seriously injured. The deceased also included the driver and his assistant of the vehicle.

Of the six injured, three persons died in the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital at Siliguri. Condition of others was critical, he said.

The truck was seized and its driver arrested.
