WATCH: Sonakshi Sinha, Vogue's New Cover Girl, Is All About Embracing Her Curves

Sonakshi Sinha is on the May cover of Vogue India, which hit stands on Thursday. As far as cover girls for fashion magazines go, Sinha is an atypical choice, given her hourglass figure which has been and continues to be the subject of much scrutiny.

Vogue India editor Priya Tanna says that the idea behind the issue is to give readers a "host of role models who are comfortable in their skin." "There’s a different place for women of all shapes and sizes on the fashion spectrum and I encourage each of you to find your sunny spot in it," she was quoted as saying in a press statement sent across by the magazine's PR agency.

In her interview to the magazine, Sinha has spoken candidly about her body-shaming past. "I've been on the other side of the weighing scale—I've been overweight (90-plus kilos)—and I know how hard it was to get where I am today," she told Vogue India. Her photographs for the issue have been shot by German photographer Ellen Von Unwerth and the styling is credited to Anaita Shroff Adjania.

A piece on FirstPost has criticised the magazine for sending out mixed messages by "photoshopping" the pictures to ironically hide her curves while "exhorting readers" to love them. However, in this behind-the-scenes video from the photo-shoot for the issue, Sinha can (clearly) be seen in all her non-photoshopped glory. We'll let you be the judge.
