The Indian hair, otherwise lustrous and thick, can be a pain to maintain during our tropical summers. Saving it from the sweat and dust is bad enough, but untidy strands that inevitably poke out can render any painstakingly-put together ensemble a mess - be it at the workplace or at a gala evening affair.

For decades Bollywood has set trends for Indian women. So when we set out looking for summer styles for long hair that would look great outdoors at all times of day and night, who best to emulate other than our Hindi film stars?

Add a little height by tightly pulling your hair back, and really escalating your bun like Aishwarya Rai at the Cannes Festival in 2011.

Careless strands brushed back to form a small bun keep the hair off your face without looking too austere.

Sonam Kapoor cut quite the figure at Cannes last year with her beautiful gowns and stylish hairdos. This faux bob curling at the side of her jawline with flapper-girl waves did away with jewellery and instead showcased her fabulous Elie Saab Couture gown.
The Office Pull-Back

Before she shingled her locks, Sonakshi Sinha could carry off this formal office wig quite well. Sweep a couple of front locks to the side, and tie the whole thing up just above the nape of your neck. Its neat structure keeps you from fiddling with your hair at work.
The Double-Tie Braid

Huma Qureshi's rocking a neat look with this double-tied braid. Pull your hair back to tie it, quickly fashion a braid, and tie it again. Use multi-coloured bands to glitz it up a little.

Actress Priyanka Chopra's seeminlgly-brilliantined vintage curls that are swept back into a loose half pony-tail make an elegant, yet modern statement.
The Big Weave

This is a complex but welcome change from Deepika Padukone's standard pony tail that adds a mature look to complement any evening gown.
