Stop Finding Faults With Us, Find Rahul Gandhi, Says BJP's Amit Shah

BENGALURU — The National Executive meet of the Bharatiya Janata Party, aimed at taking take stock of its achievements and discussing future course of action, began today with president Amit Shah's dig at Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi and Prakash Javadekar asserting that the party is here for the long haul.

Shah attacked the Opposition for "deliberately spreading misgivings" about the land bill and said Congress should stop finding "non-existing" faults with the government and instead concentrate on finding its elusive leader — a dig at Gandhi who is currently on a sabbatical.

Shah said the contentious land bill was pro-farmer and BJP was committed to the welfare of peasants.

"Opposition has deliberately spread many misgivings about the bill which is in the interest of farmers. We will take the message to farmers. BJP is friend of farmers.It is farmers who have given us mandate. Opposition is desperate, hopeless and directionless. They should stop finding those faults and shortcomings which do not exist. If they have to find something, then they should try to find their leader," Shah said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, party patriarch L K Advani were on the dais as Shah addressed the delegates, which included 111 National Executive members besides a number of special invitees, including chief ministers of the BJP-ruled states and its state presidents.

Javadekar said the Modi government will be in power for the next 10-20 years, adding, "we are not going anywhere."

"BJP is the biggest party in the country. We have 9.25 crore members and will have 10 crore members shortly. We government in 12 states and have 8 BJP chief ministers. 15 lakh new members will be imparted training," IBNLive quoted Javadekar as saying.

The national executive meet is scheduled for Friday and Saturday.

This is the fifth time that the BJP National Executive is being held in Bengaluru. Over 300 delegates are taking part in the event. The birth centenary celebrations of Deen Dayal Upadhyaya, a mentor of the party, is also expected to be discussed.

Tight security arrangements have been made in and around the Lalit Ashok Hotel and the National College grounds at Basavanagudi where Prime Minister Modi will address the public.
