NEW DELHI — Nigerian High Commissioner O B Okongor on Wednesday dubbed the 'racist' remark made by Minister of State for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Giriraj Singh as deplorable, saying his nation would initiate certain action but cautiously so that it does not destroy the bilateral relationship between both nations.
"We deplore the action, the comment by the honourable minister. We are not going to prompt the Government of India. But we will take certain actions which are considered appropriate," he said.
"I am not going to comment publicly what actions we will take. We will not do anything that will destroy the relationship. I am not going to tell the Prime Minister what to do," he added.
Singh landed himself in another political controversy earlier yesterday, when he racially targeted Congress President Sonia Gandhi.
Sitting among a group of his supporters in Hajipur, Singh asked jocularly whether Sonia's "white skin" had been her ticket to securing the top job in the Congress Party.
Stoking the controversy further, he further queried, "If Rajiv (Gandhi) had married a Nigerian, things would have been different."
