Super Mario 64 Is Now Playable In Your Web Browser

Remember Super Mario 64? The 1996 blockbuster game that launched the Nintendo 64 console is now playable in your web browser.

Unity 3D developer Roystan Ross has created a faithful rendition of the original, which can be downloaded for Mac, Windows and Linux, or played in your web browser. "Everything is just as you remember, except some really minor stuff that nobody cared about like red coins or the Wing Cap or the Big Bob-omb," writes Ross.

You’ll need to install Unity’s Web Player plugin to make it work, the remake also supports gamepads, so it’s quite likely that Nintendo might send its copyright lawyers to shut this project down. So download it while you can, before it gets pulled down.

Update: And that didn't take long. The link above reproduces the contents of an email sent to Ross's hosting provider by the attorney for Nintendo America, issuing a takedown notice for "unauthorized use of copyright-protected features of Nintendo's Super Mario 64 video game."
