Govt. Attempts To Rescue 4000 Indians Stranded In Yemen

On Monday night, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached out to King Salman of Saudi Arabia for his support and cooperation in rescuing approximately 4000 Indians stranded in Yemen.

Saudi Arabia, backed by regional Sunni Muslim allies, is carrying out airstrikes against Shi'ite Houthi fighters battling President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi.

Syed Akbaruddin, spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs, tweeted out the exchanged between the two leaders.

400 Indians had already been evacuated from Aden by sea, according to Akbaruddin, who said Indian Navy and Indian Air Force would be deployed in further rescue operations.

Navy officials said two stealth frigate ships had left Mumbai for Yemen, IANS reported, and two C 17 Globemaster aircrafts would fly to Djibouti on Tuesday to bring back the stranded Indians.
