Actor Anushka Sharma has received overwhelming support after being unfairly bashed on Twitter for Virat Kohli's dismal performance in the World Cup semifinal against Australia on Thursday. Kohli, her boyfriend, made one run in the crucial match which ended in India's ouster from the cricket tournament.

Twitter users including fellow actors have slammed the hateful messages posted against Sharma, who was sitting in the audience in Sydney. A stunned expression registered on her face as Kohli was caught out by Brad Haddin off Mitchell Johnson's bowling.

Sharma's effigy was reportedly burned in Gwalior. One particularly disturbing Twitter message called for Sharma's house to be stoned.

"I request to all the people to go n throw stones at the house of Anushka Sharma who is the main reason for the defeat of India." #AUSvIND— Kamaal R Khan-KRK (@kamaalrkhan) March 26, 2015

Here are some messages expressing support for Sharma, who has previously said that it is "primitive to call me his distraction and blame me for his performance."

With you my dear Anushka! Bunch of uneducated idiots who target you. Been through this dam thing. Jakho rakhe sanyaan maar sake na koi!

After seeing KRK's obnoxious tweet blaming anushka for India's loss, i think 66A should be retained for gutter like him.

It's ok to be disappointed or critical. BUT these comments about Anushka are DOWNRIGHT disgusting.

Im ashamed today as an Indian for the way we treated Anushka Sharma and as a journalist for the way media is treating our cricketers.

Blaming and joking bout Anushka??cz a woman can ONLY be a distraction and not a strength? Wht bout d other times we won or Virat made a 100?

I don't think it's Anushka's fault. I think we lost because Zayn left One Direction #conspiracytheory
