Xiaomi continues to disrupt the consumer technology space on price. Announced yesterday, their newest launch is an Android-based 40-inch smart TV that functions as an entertainment hub and game console.
Priced at 1,999 CNY (Rs.20,050 approx), the Mi TV 2 is fitted with a 40-inch Sharp SDP X-Gen 1080p LCD panel with 5,000:1 contrast ratio. It runs MIUI TV, an Android-based OS, which is powered by a Cortex A9 quad-core CPU and Mali 450 MP4 4+2 core GPU, 1.5GB of DDR3 RAM, and 8GB eMMC flash storage.
It has a 14.4mm ultra-slim frame, supports 10-bit hardware video decoding and Dolby virtual surround sound, but lacks a microSD card slot found in the 4k 49-inch model, which costs around $645.
The unit will go on sale on March 31st in China. It will be interesting to see if Xiaomi launches this unit in India, as it could easily be a bestseller.
