'Queen', 'Haider', and 'Court' Amongst Winners At 62nd National Film Awards

62nd National Film Awards Announced; 'Queen', 'Haider', and 'Court' Amongst Winners
Ministry Of Information and Broadcasting

The results of the 62nd National Awards were declared by the Ministry Of Information and Broadcasting on Tuesday afternoon. The full list of winners was announced at a press conference on held at the National Media Centre, New Delhi, by jury members Bharathiraja, Kamal Swaroop, and Govind Kumar; it was also simultaneously disseminated via the Ministry's official Twitter handle.

The biggest news was that of the Best Feature Film award going to multilingual courtroom drama 'Court', the critically-acclaimed darling of the international film festival circuit, nearly three weeks before its nation-wide theatrical release. Aside from that, despite rumours tipping actor Mammootty for the Best Actor award, that honour went to Kannada actor Vijay for his portrayal of a transgender in 'Nanu Avanalla Avalu'. Meanwhile the Best Actress award was taken by Kangana Ranauat (who has also swept all the popular awards in this category thus far) for her portrayal of a middle-class Delhi girl in Vikas Bahl's 'Queen' — which also won Best Hindi Film.
