With the onset of summer, it is officially fashion week season in India. And, this year promises an additional sparkle with Lakmé Fashion Week completing 15 years in the fashion industry. To mark the special event, Lakmé has put together 84 participating designers who shall feature their Summer collections from 18 - 22 March at Palladium Hotel, Mumbai.
Over 15 years, LFW has added a potent mix of designers to its collection, that ranges from Sabyasachi to Tarun Tahiliani and Manish Malhotra, and continues to serve as a pedestal for talented new designers with it's 'Gen Next Show' - boasting a total of 125 additions since its incorporation in 2006. It has also highlighted several social causes such as 'Fashion for Relief Funds' for Citizens of Justice and Peace in solidarity for 26/11/2008 terror attack ( this year shall see a collection dedicated by Manish Malhotra for WEvolve, a campaign against gender-based violence).
Last year saw LFW celebrate a digital reach of 1.2 million followers. Between then, and 2000, LFW has marked some iconic moments: A synergy between art and fashion with ARTSTUDIO, marking Barbie's 50th anniversary, reviving traditional Indian textiles and craftsmanship, and of course showcasing the best of Bollywood on the ramp as showstoppers.
