Video: 'India's Daughter' Blasts Delhi Gang Rape Lawyer For His Grotesque Views On Women

Over the past two years, M.L. Sharma, a defence lawyer in the Delhi Gang Rape case, has expressed his grotesque opinions on the position of women in Indian society. He has said that Nirbhaya, and other women who venture out alone at night, or accompanied by a male friend, are inviting rape.

The media has continued to interview Sharma despite his obvious penchant for making vile observations. But his recent remarks in 'India's Daughter', Leslie Udwin's documentary on the Delhi gang rape, have really set people's teeth on edge.

"Our culture is the best. In our culture, there is no place for a woman," he said.

In response, a young woman, who identifies herself as 'India's Daughter', has made a video in which she slams Sharma for his vile views. "Someone has to tell his man the truth. This cannot go on," she says. "How can you be so deluded."

Some of Sharma's bizarre sentiments slammed in the short video: "You cannot penetrate without being excited. If you cannot do that how can you go for sex, how can you go for rape..."A woman is like a flower she needs to be protected by a man"..."In our society, we never allow girls to come out of the house after 6:30 or 7:30 or 8:30 with an unknown person."

'India's Daughter' has very likely expressed what millions of Indian women have wanted to say to Sharma for the past two years. Her video had crossed 200,000 views on Friday afternoon since it was posted on March 8.

“Rape is not about disrespect, Sir, it is not about a woman’s izzat. It is about violating a human body in the worst way possible," the woman says in the video. "Provocation is not an excuse, poverty is not an excuse, moral policing is not an excuse and being juvenile is definitely not an excuse."

“You might not have raped anyone, Mr. Sharma, but you are definitely cheering it on. And for that, I, India’s Daughter, will not forgive you," she says.
