Perth — Mahendra Singh Dhoni today surpassed former skipper Sourav Ganguly as the most successful Indian captain in terms of ODI victories achieved on foreign shores.

The four-wicket win over the West Indies in the cricket World Cup here was Dhoni's 59th while Ganguly had 58 victories under his belt.

The current Indian captain played a key role with an unbeaten 45-run knock, helping his side to a hard-fought win at the WACA.

Under his leadership, India won the 2007 World T20 and the 2011 World Cup at home, besides the Champions Trophy in England two years ago. He was also at the helm when India achieved the number one Test rankings.
