Melbourne: South African cricket team's pace spearhead Dale Steyn is down with flu that has forced him to miss his team's multiple training sessions.

Steyn complained of a blocked nose and sore throat after South Africa's World Cup tournament opening match against Zimbabwe Sunday, reported cricket-specific website ESPNcricinfo Wednesday.

Steyn picked up 1/64 from nine overs in his team's 62-run win against Zimbabwe.

Steyn, reportedly, has been unwell from the beginning of their campaign and participated half-heartedly in the practice sessions ahead of the match against Zimbabwe, bowling with a short run-up.

South Africa are yet to issue any official statement on Steyn's fitness but he still has three days to get ready for Sunday's crucial clash against India at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
