The Indian National Congress Party filed a complaint on Monday with the Election Commission against Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal for telling voters to accept money from his political rivals, but vote for the AAP in the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections.
“It’s election time. When people from the BJP and the Congress come offering money, don’t refuse, accept ... some have looted money from 2G, some have looted money from coal scam," said Kejriwal at a rally in West Delhi on Sunday.
“Take money from both the parties but vote for the AAP. We will fool them this time. They have been deceiving us for the last 65 years. Now it’s our turn,” he said.
AAP's political rivals from the Congress Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party have slammed Kejirwal for his remarks.
"He has insulted voters. He should apologise. Asking voters to take money from others is tantamount to offering money oneself," said Ajay Maken of the Congress Party.
Praveen Shankar Kapoor, BJP's media convenor in Delhi, said, "This gives us another proof of the double moral standards of Kejriwal. It is up to Delhiites to choose between power hungry Kejriwal or the honest leadership of BJP."
AAP has reportedly said that Kejriwal was not encouraging voters to take bribes. Arvind ji only meant that buying people's votes with alcohol and money is not right and should be stopped for fair polls, said AAP leader Ashutosh.
Kejriwal also criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi's BJP rally speech at the Ramlila Maidan, last week.
"I had high expectations from the Prime Minister's Ramlila Maidan rally speech. But it was such a let down. He spent half the time branding me a Naxalite and criticising me for sitting in dharnas. This kind of politics is not good. Politics should rather be issued based," he said.
