Rdio Music Streaming Service Launched In India

Online music streaming service Rdio has just launched its music service in India. Rdio brings its catalogue of 30 million tracks, and India is the 61’st country where the service is available. The launch comes ten months after they acquired Dhingana, an Indian music streaming service. Dhingana founders Snehal Shinde and Swapnil Shinde will joined the executive team at Rdio.

Founded by Janus Friis, the co-founder of Skype in 2010, Rdio considers its mission to “provide access to every track on every device, anywhere in the world, online or offline.” Rdio can be accessed on desktop browser and all major smartphone OSes.

The free version offers curated stations based on artists, albums, genres, and music preferences of friends and music artists. Rdio also syncs with music identification services like Shazam and Soundhound.

Paid users can listen to the entire catalog without ads and sync tracks for offline usage for Rs. 119 a month. The service offers a month-long free trial for users who enter their payment information.

Music services like Pandora and Spotify have yet to make their way into India. Indian music streaming competitors to Rdio include Gaana, Hungama, Saavn, and Airtel's Wynk.
