A Delhi court has awarded an eight-months jail term to the accused in a 2001 case of rash-and-negligent driving in which a woman pedestrian died after being hit by a Blueline bus. The court observed that it was his duty to take care of other users of the road.
Additional Sessions Judge Narinder Kumar pronounced the order on an revision appeal filed by the accused Rajender against the order of a magisterial court which had awarded one year imprisonment to him in November, 2014.
"It was the duty of the accused, while driving the bus on public way, to take care of other users of the road. He could easily see the pedestrian who was in the middle of the road," the court said.
The sessions court, however, reduced the jail term to eight months after noting that this was his first offence.
