Washington: According to the Digital Policy Council, a nonpartisan think tank, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has the second largest number of followers after U.S. President Barack Obama among all world leaders on Twitter.

According to the Washington Times, Modi has nearly nine million followers while Obama retains the number one spot with 51 million followers on the social networking site, states the research.

Turkish President Recep Erdogan stands at number three followed by Russian Prime Minster Dmitry Medvedev and Queen Rania of Jordan on fourth and fifth positions respectively.

The research also said that out of 94 nations classified as entirely democratic, 84 nations are Twitter friendly that concludes that 90 percent of world leaders tweet.

Meanwhile, only 62 percent of non-democratic nations' leaders tweet.
