A 19-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a youth under the Kothakota police station limits in the Visakhapatnam district, police said.

The incident took place yesterday evening when the girl had gone out to answer nature's call.

Her family members lodged a police complaint against A Rajasekhar (22), the accused, today.

The girl, native of Ravikamatham, was visiting her relatives' house. Rajasekhar alleged dragged her to a sugarcane field seeing her alone and raped her, according to the complaint.

Hearing her cries for help, some locals rushed to the spot when the accused fled.

Police were looking for the accused, while the girl was sent to government hospital, Narsipatnam, for medical tests.
