WhatsApp May Come To The Desktop Soon

WhatsApp, the world’s most popular mobile messaging app may soon have a desktop version. Dutch site has uncovered references to “WhatsApp Web” in the code of the latest app update, and leaked screenshots of logged in computers running on Windows and OS X.

The rumours follow a recent prediction that WhatsApp will release a web version by Pavel Durov, the co-founder of Telegram, who told Techcrunch that WhatsApp had tried to hire their web developer.

Telegram grew its user base by exponentially after WhatsApp got acquired by Facebook in February this year. Unlike WhatsApp, Telegram has clients for the desktop and the web, and lets users send encrypted messages. Other WhatsApp competitors include WeChat, Viber, and Line, which also have clients for the desktop.

WhatsApp currently has more than 600 million monthly active users, India alone has a user base of 70 million WhatsApp users. In April this year, WhatsApp had processed 64 billion messages in 24 hours.
