Aneel Brar, a Canadian citizen of Punjabi origin and current student of global health at Harvard University, has been working for rural women since 2011, and helping them be heard. This article itself is the latest instance of that, as his invitation for me to visit 35BB--the village in Sri Ganganagar district of Rajasthan where he works--opened up my ears to the cries of rural Indian women.

Every year, 2.7 crore children are born in India. This is the sum that we hope becomes the dividend of India's growth equation. This cohort, it is projected, adds to India's celebrated profile of having the world's largest youth population for the next two decades -- approximately 356 million 10-24-year-olds. Projections peg great hope on this statistic, anticipating it to be the major factor driving the plot of India's growth story. However, there are daunting challenges accompanying this demographic advantage, particularly when it comes to health.
How are local consumers supposed to make smarter food choices if there aren't products available? To my surprise, though, I did find some relatively healthy options to replace saturated fats, sugary bars and maida pasta at the recent Nutra India Summit. Here's my take.
