'Holy S**t,' Bran Says Your 'Game Of Thrones' Theories Might Be Right

Isaac Hempstead Wright thinks fans are onto something.

There’s gonna be a Bran[d] new season of “Game of Thrones” this summer.

And following the events of Season 6, Isaac Hempstead Wright’s character Bran Stark seems to be more important than ever. Last year, we saw him get marked by the Night’s King, which destroyed the magical protection on the Three-eyed Raven’s cave. Then, while in a vision of the past, he inadvertently created a connection that caused Hodor to become Hodor ― his companion lost his mind while trying to “hold the door” to give Bran and Meera time to escape from wights.

Hold the dooooooor! (Eh, sorry, got carried away.)

R.I.P., Hodor.

Since Bran and his visions/time travel are the reason Hodor became Hodor, it’s led to theories that he could be the most important character in the history of Westeros. Some speculate Bran might’ve been responsible for other major events in the series, like going back in time to become Bran the Builder, a Stark supposedly responsible for building the Wall.

“God, I love it,” Hempstead Wright said while talking about reading theories.

The Huffington Post caught up with the actor at the “Game of Thrones” Live Concert Experience at Madison Square Garden (an event which, funnily enough, might have a secret Bran connection).

The actor recalled reading a theory about Hodor’s origin story long before the big reveal on the show.

“I remember reading when I got sent the script for Season 6, and it had Hodor’s death in it. I thought, ‘God, this is amazing. Let me Google this to see if anyone came up with a theory,’ and of course there was some guy on some forum somewhere who had come up with ‘hold the door,’ ‘hold the door.’ It was in a slightly different context, but he got it absolutely dead-on, so it’s like anything really could happen,” he said.

“Holy shit! Yep, they’ve got it."”

Since the show is beyond the books at this point, we asked the actor if the theories he’s reading online now are as good or just way off. Some may be right, according to Hempstead Wright.

“No, there are times you read it and go, ‘Holy shit! Yep, they’ve got it,’” he said.

Despite the good theories out there, even the guy who plays Bran doesn’t know how things will turn out in the end.

“Even though we’ve just shot Season 7, you have no idea how it’s gonna end or what’s gonna happen in Season 8, so I love going online and seeing what people are coming up with,” Hempstead Wright said.

Since some theories could turn out to be true, here are a few popular candidates we asked the actor about:

1. Did Bran build the Wall?

From Season 6, it appears Bran has the ability to influence past events. With this revelation, some fans say there’s proof in George R.R. Martin’s books that Bran could’ve traveled to the past to become other Bran Starks throughout history, including Bran the Builder, who raised the Wall.

As support, Old Nan seems to confuse Bran for the other Brans at times. One particular passage in A Game Of Thrones reads:

Sometimes Nan would talk to him as if he were her Brandon, the baby she had nursed all those years ago, and sometimes she confused him with his uncle Brandon, who was killed by the Mad King before Bran was even born. She had lived so long, Mother had told him once, that all the Brandon Starks had become one person in her head.

Another passage from A Clash of Kings talks of a small boy who gave advice to the legendary figure Durran during the construction of Storm’s End.

Some said the children of the forest helped him build it, shaping the stones with magic; others claimed that a small boy told him what he must do, a boy who would grow to be Bran the Builder.

Could this small boy have actually been Bran?

On the theory that Bran built the Wall, Hempstead Wright told us, “Yeah, I read a lot of that. Sounds cool.” He said there’s always a chance.

“I don’t know to be honest. Anything is a possibility with ‘Game of Thrones.’”

2. Will Bran warg into a dragon?

By far one of the most popular theories is that Bran will one day warg into a dragon. It stems largely from the Three-eyed Raven telling him, “You’ll never walk again, but you will fly.

(Side note: Being a dragon is my personal dream, which I told Hempstead Wright while showing him the fan art above. He’s all for it, too.)

Looking at the fan art, the actor excitedly said, “Yeah, yeah, yeah, that’s cool! That’d be up there on my list of things I’d like to be ... dragon, number one.”

(Me too, dude.)

“You’ll have to watch and find out,” he added.

3. Does Jon Snow have a twin?

Since Jon Snow and Meera Reed are the same age and have similar hairstyles, and their father figures, Ned Stark and Howland Reed, were supposedly the only guys who survived the Tower of Joy, there’s evidence that Meera could be Jon Snow’s twin.

We wrote a lengthy post about the Jon Snow twins theory here, and also got Meera actor Ellie Kendrick’s take.

Hempstead Wright said, “I love this,” but he explains it may be a show-only thing if it happens.

“I’ve talked to Ellie about this, who plays Meera, and she was saying she thinks it’s more the show.” He continued, “Because she and Kit look quite similar, because in the books I don’t think [they do]. I love that idea because it does make sense because Howland Reed is that last guy.”

Brace yourselves, “Game of Thrones” fans. There are only two seasons left, and many more theories are coming.
