Praveen Rai

Political Analyst at the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies, Delhi.

Praveen Rai is a postgraduate in history with a degree in law from university of Delhi with more than ten years of experience in survey research and election studies in India. Before his current assignment, he worked as a Project Manager at Lokniti, Programme for Comparative Democracy, a research programme of CSDS that specializes in election studies. While at Lokniti, he handled more than fifty election studies and opinion polls. He uses quantitative data and statistical tools in his academic and non academic writings.

His key areas of interest include election studies with special focus on the status of opinion polls and participation of women in electoral politics in India. His seminal work 'Electoral Participation of Women in India: Key Determinants and Barriers' was published as a special article in Economic and Political Weekly in 2011. He co authored a book Measuring Voting Behaviour in India, published by Sage in 2013. His articles have been published in Indian academic journals, edited books, newspapers and blogs.
