Principal Executive Officer, Cancer Aid Society

At the age of 22, I laid the foundation of Cancer Aid Society in 1987 which grew to the regional level under my supervision as Honorary Secretary. I was appointed as Principal Executive Officer in 2000 and within next Ten Years the Organization became a reckoning force and the only one having National presence by purchasing and establishing Offices in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Head Office in Lucknow. To address the challenges of future integrated the complex issues of Prevention and Control of NCDs including Cancer, Tobacco along with Palliative Care, authored about 100 Copyright documents including a series of 24 Booklets on different types of Cancer and completed Ph.D. on “Cancer – A Sociological Encounter” from Lucknow University.

Organized 24 Workshops on Palliative Care all over India and was Speaker in 30 National & International Conferences and Workshops on various subjects along with over 50 training sessions for the skill development of the Social Workers. Instrumental in making available medicines at discounted rates to the Patients of SGPGIMS through the HRF. As Organising Secretary of the 18th International Conference of Indian Association of Palliative Care at Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences prepared first ever Palliative Care Declaration Internationally and through active advocacy led to fast developments in Palliative Care across India from 2009-2011 and became Member of the Committee of Govt. of India in 2012 for suggesting the Amendment of NDPS Act incorporating the suggestions for addressing Palliative Care. Worked on the availability of Oral Morphine in Government Hospitals. Conceived & got constructed the Day Care

Centre for the Cancer Patients at Lucknow in sprawling Campus of 50000 Sq. Feet with serene environment and lush green surroundings. Introduced the use of Homeopathic Medicines in Palliative Care by establishing a free dispensary, effectively demonstrated its efficacy in pain management in chronic illnesses. Member of several National & International Palliative care Organisations.

As a strong Advocate worked for the promulgation of COTPA in 2003 and subsequently raising Tobacco Taxes in new budgets. Contributed in the revision of COTPA and enforcement of 85% pictorial warning and member of several tobacco committees of the Govt. and other associations.

Internationally an American Cancer Society University (2005-2007) Alumni, Scholar and Fellow of UICC 2006. Got ISO:2008 in 2004 and other accreditations including Special Consultative Status of United Nations Economic and Social Council in 20012. Participated in the High Level Meeting for the Control of Non Communicable Diseases in 2011 and successive Review Meeting in 2014 at United Nations Headquarters New York, further attended the Dialogues on the NCDs at World Health Organisation Headquarters Geneva in April and November 2015 as a Member of WHO - Global Coordination Mechanism on Non Communicable Diseases. Received several recognitions and awards on behalf of Cancer Aid Society and active Member of various National & International Organisations.
