Nandita Basu is a retired professor of Bengali literature. She was born in erstwhile East Pakistan, now Bangladesh, and grew up in Tripura. She taught Bengali and Comparative Literature in Delhi University for 38 years and continues to teach in the Department of Modern Indian Languages and Literary Studies as guest faculty, post retirement. She has been a regular contributor in a number of Little Magazines and loves to travel, see new places and interact with new people.
Mahasweta Devi passed away on 28 July, but all the fond memories remain. Two things always struck me about Mahasweta: Her zest for life and her unique way of dealing with people. Wherever she went, she would invariably be the centre of attention. Such was the magic of her personality.
