Dr Damodar Bachani is the Director Professor & Head, Department of Community Medicine, Lady Hardinge Medical College, New Delhi. With nearly 37 years of professional experience in health sector in teaching and health program management at the national level, Dr. Bachani has a background in Community Medicine. He had significantly contributed in the strategic management, monitoring, human resource development and resource management of these programs.
Currently in the capacity of Deputy Commissioner, Non Communicable Disease (NCD), he is managing NCD programs relating to Cancer, Diabetes, cardiovascular Diseases, Trauma and risk factors. He is member/convener of various committees constituted for NCD prevention and control. He has more than 85 publications in various national and international journals and large number of technical reports and guidelines.
It is estimated that 31 million adult people died prematurely (death below 70 years of age) in India during 2010-2015; accounting for 21% of the total global premature deaths, the highest in the world. An important trend observed by health organizations is the shift of the premature mortality burden from the child (0-5 years) to the adult (15-60 years) level.
