Shoojit Sircar's 'October,' Starring Varun Dhawan & Banita Sandhu, Looks Achingly Romantic

A lost-in-time love story.
Rising Sun

With the kind of movies we see these days, it feels Bollywood has forgotten romance.

The kind of achingly poetic romance which is a combination of melancholy, wistfulness and perhaps brief spells of contentment.

The last Hindi film that achieved that in recent memory was Vikramaditya Motwane's poetic, Lootera.

And now, Shoojit Sircar and writer Juhi Chaturvedi, who previously delighted viewers with VickyDonor and Piku, are back for their third collaboration, October, toplined by Varun Dhawan, and co-starring Banita Sandhu.

While Dhawan is coming from a spate of hits such as Judwaa 2 and Badrinath Ki Dulhania, it'll be Banita Sandhu's debut film. She has been previously seen in commercials, including the viral Doublemint ad (also directed by Shoojit Sircar).

In the teaser released yesterday, the makers offered a window into what's coming next, and it looks promising.

Right from the melancholic background score to the cinematography, the film appears to have a lost-in-time romantic vibe.

While not a lot is known about the film, sources close to the project told this writer that it's a story about a young man falling in love with a woman coping with a serious illness, narrated through multiple accounts of their common friends.

Produced by Ronnie Lahiri and Shoojit Sircar, the film is set to open in theatres on April 12.
