A court in Goa has charged former editor of Tehelka, Tarun Tejpal, for raping his colleague from the news magazine four years ago.

The Times of India reported that Goa's Mapusa court Tejpal has been charged with under Sections 354 (assaulting or using criminal force on a woman with an intent to outrage her modesty), 354-A (outraging modesty), 341 (wrongful restraint), 342 (wrong confinement), 376 (rape), 376(2) (f) (person in position of trust or authority over women, committing rape of such women) and 376(2) (k) (rape of a woman by a person being in position of control or dominance over the woman) of the Indian Penal Code.

Earlier in the week, the Goa bench of the Bombay High Court refused to stay framing of charges against him.

NDTV reported that the trial court has also asked for a status report on the proceedings at the Bombay High Court on the next day of hearing, which is on November 21.

A colleague had accused Tejpal of assaulting her during an event in Goa in 2013.

Tejpal's lawyer told Indian Express, "We are disappointed with the trial court order. We are confident the high court will discharge us." The next hearing in the case against Tejpal is on 21st November."

Tejpal had earlier also contended that there was a lack of evidence against him in the case.
