A joy ride for three Bengaluru teenagers turned tragic on Saturday night after they lost control of the speeding cars they were racing in and rammed into a barricade on the Elevated Flyover on Hosur Road.

According to a Times of India report, 17-year-old Arfhan Salim, who was driving a Skoda, died on the spot, while two of his other friends Anirudh K and Srinvas G sustained minor injuries.

The boys, all students of city's international school, left their house around 12 am without informing their parents. They reportedly drove multiple times between Silk Board junction and Electronics City before the accident occurred around 3 am.

"Arfhan first lost control over his car after they got down the ramp and entered Hosur Road. He hit the barricades to his right in the median. In the impact of the crash, the car banged against the barricades, severing his head. Arfhan's head fell off, while the torso remained in the car that toppled before coming to a halt," theTOI report said.

The police also said the boys were speeding at over 150km/hr. "The boys claim they had gone on such drives earlier with more of their school friends..." Abhishek Goyal, a senior officer of the traffic police told NDTV.

A case for causing death due to negligence has been filed against the two minors, while their fathers have been booked for allowing unauthorised persons to drive vehicles.
