A class 10 student of a school in Noida has reportedly lost 25 percent of his hearing ability after he was slapped by a classmate. The video of the slapping incident went viral after it surfaced on Thursday. While three students have been suspended following the incident, the school has claimed that it was not a case of bullying but part of a "slap bet".

"[T]his is not a bullying incident," the school director, Shalini Advani said in an official statement. "It is the outcome of a consensual peer 'slap bet' episode that a few Pathways School Noida students had between themselves."

The incident reportedly took place in the school washroom on Monday, where some students watched while one of them slapped the other, while another student was taking a video. No police complaint has been made in the matter yet. The slap has reportedly caused a hole in the child's eardrum.

The parents have alleged that the incident has caused the boy mental trauma, and that he refuses to go to school and cries all the time. While it appears that the boys were making the video for a "Snapchat story" for social media, the parents of the child who was injured have asked the school to take action against others involved in the incident.

The video went viral on social media on Thursday.
