A 22-year-woman pregnant woman was killed by her husband following a dispute allegedly over the shape of her chapatis. The husband, unhappy that the chapatis she was making weren't perfectly round, strangled his wife, Simran, reported Times of India.

Even though the altercation and subsequent murder took place on Saturday night, the matter only came to light in the early hours of Sunday morning, when the victim's brother notified the police. At around 4 am on Sunday, Simran's brother called the police and told them that his sister was lying unconscious in a room, while her four-year-old daughter was locked up in the other room. The husband was absconding. Simran and her family lived in northwest Delhi's Jahangirpuri area.

My mother was a good cook but the chappati shape angered my father.

On being rescued, the couple's four-year-old daughter told the police that her parents often fought over the shape of her mother's chapatis.

"My mother was a good cook but the chapati shape angered my father," TOI quoted the daughter as saying. According to the daughter, her parents fought at about 10:30 pm on Saturday night, during which her father kicked her mother in the stomach. She was four months pregnant. When she tried to save her mother, the father locked her up in the other room.

Simran was declared dead on arrival when she was taken to the hospital.

The couple had been married for five years, and had been in a live-in-relationship for a year before that.

The couple had been married for five years, and had been in a live-in-relationship for a year before that. The husband had been working in a factory for the last two years, after the collapse of his business, reported TOI.

Earlier this month, a 55-year-old woman, Sunaina, was shot dead by her drunk 60-year-old husband Ashok Kumar over a delay in serving him dinner. She too, was declared dead on arrival, due to the gunshot wound to the head.

In October 2016, a Pakistani man was sentenced to death for brutally beating his 12-year-old daughter to death for failing to make round chapatis.
