Bollywood actor Sitaram Panchal, who has worked in movies like Peepli Live, Jolly LLB 2 and Paan Singh Tomar, is battling cancer and struggling to pay for his treatment.

In a Facebook post on Monday morning, the actor said: "Bhaio meri help karo meri cancer se halat kharab hoti ja rahi hai apka kalakar bhai sitaram panchal."

The actor has reportedly been suffering from kidney and lung cancer since 2014.

"Initially, he used to work and we could make ends meet. But now, he does not even have the strength to stand up," Panchal's wife, Uma, told Hindustan Times.

Thankfully, soon after the posts about the actor's condition and financial plight went viral, many from the film fraternity came forward to help -- with direct contributions and to help raise funds.

Cine & TV Artistes Association (CINTAA) also posted a message on its Facebook wall, that read:

"It pains us to hear the suffering of our esteemed member Shri Sitaram Panchal, we assure him of all the help we can provide to him in his hour of need and also urge all of you to open your hearts."

Several directors/producers have offered considerable help for the 54-year-old National School of Drama graduate.

Masaan and Dhanak producer, Manish Mundra, has reportedly promised to bear the medical expenses of the actor.

"In a developed world, where population is miniscule, a proper healthcare plan and insurance policies are devised to take care of individual well-being. Since we are not well-equipped in this regard, we should contribute to society in our own way. Thanks to social media, we can now reach out to those in need and vice versa," Mumbai Mirror quoted the filmmaker as saying.

Other industry friends who have lent a helping hand to the actor include filmmaker Krishan Hooda, Mukesh Bhatt and Anusha Rizvi, among others.

Several actors have also come forward seeking help for Panchal on social media platforms.
