The ministry has now said these were just suggestions.

The Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH) Ministry has issued an advisory for pregnant women that has revived the food debate that sporadically surfaces after each incident of beef censoring. The government booklet advises pregnant women to avoid eating meat, among other lifestyle suggestions.

This, the ministry believes would ensure healthy babies.

The advisory has been criticised many on social media as lofty and sermonic. The Ministry has since clarified that the suggestions were not binding.

Doctors have also refuted the suggestions saying there was no medical basis to such advice.

And while AYUSH is in damage control mode, here is a look at how five Indian newspapers covered the news.
