IAF Pilot, Who Had Accused Seniors Of Harassment, Sentenced To Jail For Refusing To Eat Food And Stealing TV Remotes

He was declared permanently unfit to fly in 2016.

Faced with 20 charges, an Indian Air Force pilot has been dismissed from service and sentenced to two years in jail.

According to this India Today report, the pilot was convicted by a general court martial (GCM) under various charges-- including assault on his superiors, refusal to eat food and having stolen remote controls from the officers' mess.

Initially, he was sentenced to seven years rigorous imprisonment. However, he was granted bail by the Delhi court and his sentencing reduced to two years.

The report notes that the IAF officer was a transport pilot and used to fly Antonov-32 cargo planes. He was was transferred to the ground service following an injury to his knee during a sports event in 2013. He also won a gold medal for the IAF in a national shooting championship.

The IAF pilot had earlier accused his seniors of harassment and said he had been victimised ever since he was grounded. He had also said that he was denied proper treatment. After his failure to recover, he was declared permanently unfit to fly a transport on aircraft on April 21, 2016.
