Twenty-two people have been reported dead after a bus collided with a truck on NH-24 near Uttar Pradesh's Bareilly in the wee hours on Monday.

According to the reports, 16 more passengers were injured and have been admitted to a nearby district hospital.

The accident reportedly took place after the fuel tank of the Uttar Pradesh State Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) bus blasted after colliding with the truck.

"The truck and the bus both caught fire after the collision. Fire engines reached as soon as possible but the flames were so high that it took us a lot of effort to actually douse the flames and reach inside," senior police officer SK Bhagat told NDTV.

The bus was headed from New Delhi to Gonda depot in Uttar Pradesh.

Further details are awaited.
