As the controversy surrounding beef ban gets murkier by the day, a Congress MLA from Kerala made a statement on Facebook by choosing to participate and eat beef at a gathering, despite him being a vegetarian for over 19 years.

VT Balram from Thrithala assembly constituency chose to eat beef to make a statement that citizens should have the right to eat whatever they want to.

At the Kerala Students' Union celebrations in Kochi, Balram took a bite of beef from his friend's plate as a symbolic gesture.

He even posted a video of the same on Facebook.

VT Balram had also slammed the Centre's order and had said on Facebook:

"First you all have to check if all the people in the country are getting something to eat."

The controversy surrounding the Centre's decision for banning beef in India has been resonating with many people across the country.

The move was also publicly condemned by Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who had called it an "attack on plurality, the essence of India". He had even written letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging him to repeal the new order on cattle slaughter.
