In Bizarre Remarks, Tamil Nadu Dairy Minister Said Milk From Private Companies Causes Cancer

In bizarre comments, Tamil Nadu's Dairy Minister KT Rajenthra Bhalaji has said that consuming milk from private companies can cause cancer.

India Today quoted the minister as saying, "Milk sold by private companies is adulterated and that's how it can last for days without getting spoilt. These chemicals used in the milk cause cancer among children. Aavin milk on the other hand is as pure as mother's milk."

Reports suggest that he questioned how the companies sold milk that lasted for more than three days.

The New Indian Express reported that Bhalaji he had first made these comments at the inauguration of a dairy unit of Aavin, the dairy producer established the state's Dairy Development Department, on Tuesday and then reiterated it on Thursday.

India Today reported the minister as saying that companies that were not allowed to function in Kerala were selling such milk in Tamil Nadu.

Meanwhile the report in The New Indian Express quoted the minister as saying that while private milk companies used preservatives, Aavin's milk was as safe as mother's milk.

The minister said that he was collecting information on the issue and planned to sue such companies.
