After the launch of its first Mi Home store in India in Bengaluru, Xiaomi is preparing to unveil the new Redmi smartphone on 16 May. The phonemaker has sent out media invites for an event in Delhi, which is likely to be the launch of the Redmi 4 smartphone.

The device was launched last year in China. Its predecessors, the Redmi 3S and Redmi 3S Prime, were launched in India last July and have sold quite well here.

The Redmi 4 has a 5-inch 720p display and, under the hood, it has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor. It has a 2 GB RAM capacity and 16 GB internal memory capacity. The smartphone comes with a 4,100 mAh battery and will run a customised version of MIUI 8 over Android Marshmallow 6.0. It has a 13 MP front camera and a 5 MP rear camera.

The higher variant Redmi 4 Prime uses Snapdragon 625 processor with 3 GB RAM capacity. The device also has a higher 32 GB internal memory.

The Redmi 4 will be exclusively sold on Amazon. Unlike, Lenovo which launched the Moto G5 on Amazon after launching the Moto G5 Plus on Flipkart, Xiaomi has stayed with Amazon as its sole e-commerce partner. Both, the Redmi 4 and the Redmi 4 Prime are likely to be priced under ₹10,000.
