Tara Khan has been at the receiving end of triple talaq three times in 12 years, and the 35-year-old woman from Bareilly fears that her fourth marriage could also end in instant divorce.

Her first husband left her for a younger woman after seven years because they failed to have children, The Times of Indiareported today. Her second husband, who would often assault her, "uttered the dreaded words" after she resisted physical abuse.

Tara was persuaded by her uncle to marry again, but her third husband also turned out to be a violent wife beater. "One day he beat me up and left me at the house of my uncle. Just at the gate, before he turned to leave, Sonu gave me triple talaq," she told TOI.

Tara is now petrified that her fourth husband is about to divorce her as well and her family will not accept her.

"Things have got very bad for me now and I am terrified that I will be on the roads if Shamshad leaves me. My five brothers who believe that I have brought embarrassment to the family do not want to keep me either. I do not want this marriage to end, come what may. But Shamshad behaves like the others. Where does a Muslim woman go? I have had enough trouble in the last 12 years and I cannot fight anyone or anything anymore," she told the newspaper.

Tara, who is going to family counseling with her husband in Bareilly, said that she will seek Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's help to ensure that her husband does not divorce her.

The Bharatiya Janata Party-led governments at the Centre and in Uttar Pradesh have said that they want a bring an end to the practice of triple talaq.
