THIRUVANANTHAPURAM -- A two-time Congress legislator in Kerala, KS Sabarinadhan, is marrying IAS officer Divya S Iyer, the politician announced on Tuesday.

Sabarinadhan, 34, an engineer-turned-politician, is the son of Congress leader and former Speaker G Karthikeyan. He entered politics after his father died in 2015.

Iyer, 32 and a 2014 batch IAS officer, is the Sub-Collector of Thiruvananthapuram, her home town. She is a medical professional who joined the administrative service.

"We recently met and after interacting we felt we both have the same outlook and beliefs," the young legislator wrote on his Facebook page.

Sabarinadhan left a high-profile job with a leading company and contested elections from the Aruvikara assembly constituency, which his father represented five times.

Sabarinadhan won a by-election in 2015 and was victorious a year later again.

They were engaged a few days ago in the presence of their immediate family members. The marriage is likely to be solemnised next month.

Interestingly, Sabarinadhan's father had gone through a tumultuous political romance when he was in his 30s. He was courting a teacher, now Sabarinadhan's mother MT Sulekha, much to the disapproval of their respective families. According to The Times of India, Sabarinadhan's father and late speaker G Karthikeyan had finally eloped.

G Karthikeyan and MT Sulekha's real-life story was also the subject of a Malayalam film named Nayam Vyakthamakkunnu (1991), featuring critically-acclaimed actors Mammootty and Shanthi Krishna.
