NEW DELHI -- The horror of abuse and torture never ended for these women.
Ten teenagers, including rape survivors and trafficked women, have complained that they were molested in a government-run shelter home in west Delhi, reported Hindustan Times. The women alleged that they were also given injections against their will--possibly growth hormones usually used by human traffickers--and beaten and harassed. One woman also alleged that she was left starving for days for alleging a staff member tortured her.
A case against the staff of the shelter home has been lodged and all the allegations are being investigated by the local police.
The matter came to light after the women reportedly wrote to the Delhi Legal Services Authority (DLSA) earlier this month, prompting DLSA to bring the matter to the notice of the Delhi Commission For Women. DCW chairperson Swati Maliwal visited the shelter home, and reportedly wrote to Delhi police commissioner Amulya Patnaik to take cognisance of the complaints.
