Patrolling had been increased in the area after a contingent of CRPF personnel was ambushed by Maoists in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district on 24 April. 26 soldiers were killed and another 7 were seriously injured. The attack is being seen as one of the deadliest ones in recent times.
High alerts were issued in other Naxal-affected areas of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra.
However, sources in the Home Ministry have confirmed that the Army will not be deployed for anti-Naxal operations.
