Tragedy to farce.

A team of investigators probing the case of the man who was filmed carrying home his brother's dead body on a bicycle, fell into a river when the bamboo bridge they were walking on collapsed. The team was on its way to the man's village which is located in Assam's Majuli district. The news of the bridge collapse came as an embarrassment for the government of Assam, more so because the Majuli constituency is represented by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.

The video of a man taking the body of his brother, who had died in a government hospital, on a bicycle for the last rites went viral social media on 19 April. Subsequent reports revealed that ambulances could not reach his village because there is no concrete bridge linking the village to the mainland.

The Majuli district administration began investigating the matter and a team, which was headed to the man's village, was crossing a makeshift bamboo bridge on foot when it collapsed, injuring some of the team members.
