Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ flagship smartphones were launched in India today, twenty days after their global launch. Galaxy S8 will be priced at ₹57,900 and Galaxy S8+ will be priced at ₹64,900. It will be available on Flipkart and Samsung stores.

The S8 and S8+ have 5.8 and 6.2-inch QHD AMOLED screens respectively, with an 18.5:9 aspect ratio. Dropping the iconic home button in the latest devices, Samsung has opted for an almost bezel-less front design with a screen-to-body ratio of 83 percent.

The fingerprint scanner has been placed at the back, near the camera, which can be slightly uncomfortable to reach to. The phones also have the option of Iris scanner and face recognition for unlocking them.

The phones available in India will run on Samsung's Exynos processor and have 4 GB of RAM. Their internal storage out of the box capacity is 64 GB. The 12 MP rear camera lens remains the same as in the previous Galaxy S7, but Samsung has said that the camera software has been improved. The 8 MP front camera sports a sensor with f/1.7 aperture.

Galaxy S8 packs a 3,000 mAh battery while Galaxy S8+ has a 3,500 mAh battery. Both have fast-charging capability through the USB C port. The smartphones are running Android Nougat 7.0 out of the box and have a dedicated button on the side for Bixby, Samsung's new AI personal assistant. The phone maker has said that Bixby voice commands will not be activated until spring.

The flagship phones are listed on Flipkart for pre-order starting from 3 PM today. The sales will kick off from 5 May. The company has also tied up with Jio to provide double data offer for Galaxy S8 customers.
