NEW DELHI -- To help safeguard people's information from hackers snooping on unsecured wireless (Wi-Fi) networks, Norton by Symantec on Thursday launched "Norton WiFi Privacy" in India.

The solution will work for Windows, Mac, Android, iPhone and iPad devices.

"Consumers are often overly complacent when it comes to using public Wi-Fi networks, believing that nothing will happen to them," said Ritesh Chopra, Country Manager, Consumer Business Unit, Symantec India.

According to the "2016 Norton Cyber Security Insights Report", more than a fourth of Indians (27 per cent percent) claim that they regularly use public WiFi and in general.

Nearly 70 percent of Indians say public Wi-Fi is useful for checking emails, sending documents and logging into accounts on the go.

Only 56 percent are unable to determine if the Wi-Fi network they are using is secure and 45 percent use a Virtual Private Network (VPN).

"Norton WiFi Privacy helps protect information, such as passwords and credit card numbers, and denies access to hackers who may be eavesdropping on the same network," Chopra added in a statement.

"Norton WiFi Privacy" is available as one device (Rs 2,999), for five devices (Rs 3,999) and 10 devices (Rs 4,999) as annual subscription.
