MPs Have A Jolly Good Time Playing With Footballs Outside Parliament

Celebrating the FIFA decision to hold the Under-17 FIFA football world cup in Kolkata later this year, former footballer Prasun Banerjee, who is a Trinamool Congress Lok Sabha member, handed over a football to Speaker Sumitra Mahajan in the Lok Sabha.

Banerjee, a former Captain of the Indian football team, did this as soon as the House met for the day. "I decided to gift one to our beloved Speaker. A small memento from a former football captain," he said.

Vijay Goel, Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, then handed out footballs to every MP, who then decided to play kick-around outside the parlimament, much to the thrill of watching mediapersons, except some who didn't.

While some photographers coaxed a bunch of women parliamentarians into throwing the footballs in the air, one MP decided to dribble it like a basket ball. Also, since every MP had a ball, there was some confusion over which one needed to be kicked.

Vijay Goel captured some of the fun and shared them on Twitter:

Divided by ideology-United by #football! Parliament turns into mini-stadium;check out @SuPriyoBabul's footballing skills! দারুন বাবুল ভাই! pic.twitter.com/y4uBoiNcrj
