The Delhi police has said on Friday evening that an FIR has been registered against Shiv Sena MP Ravindra Gaikwad for assaulting an Air India staffer, PTI reported.

Gaikwad, who assaulted 60-year-old Shiv Kumar on board an Air India flight, has refused to apologise, let alone accept his mistake.

Gaikwad, in a video that was widely circulated on social media, was seen hitting Kumar with his footwear and them trying to push him down the stairs to the tarmac.

The FIR was filed by Air India.

Earlier Kumar was seen telling media persons that an FIR should be filed in the case.

Gaikwad, however, is unlikely to bow down with an FIR as was seen during the scuffle on board the Air India aircraft.

While Gaikwad was assaulting Kumar, a stewardess was heard telling him, "You're a role model no? Parliament kaun pahuch sakta hai? Aap jail mein kyu jaana chahte hai? You are a democratic leader, we have elected you. Aap fenk denge toh murder case ho jayega na, sir? (Why do you want to go to jail? If you throw him out it will be a murder case)."

To which his answer was, "Hone do na, bahut cases hai hamare upar."

IANS reports that the incident happened when flight AI852 from Pune landed in New Delhi on Thursday. He was nursing a grouse that he was made to travel economy when he had a ticket for the business class. He refused to deboard and was causing trouble for other passengers.

When the incident was reported, Gaikwad showed no signs of remorse. He told ANI, "Maine sandal se pachhis maara, (I rained 25 blows on him with my slipper)," bragged the leader. "I asked them to find a solution to the impasse. Instead he was showing me attitude."

"He said 'who's an MP, I'll complain', so I hit him," he said.

After the incident, the Federation of Indian Airlines that includes Jet Airways, IndiGo, SpiceJet and GoAir have barred him. IndiGo cancelled his ticket that was booked for today.
