CHANDIGARH -- Expressing anguish over losing the Punjab Assembly polls to the Congress, former deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal has launched a tirade against the voters and asserted that the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) probably "gave people too much that they threw up".

A video has surfaced in which Sukhbir Badal can be seen addressing a gathering of people on the day when Congress leader Captain Amarinder Singh took oath as the Chief Minister.

"I thank everybody who voted for us. You really fought hard for us. But, as it happens in life, when a person eats too much, he vomits. Similarly, I think we gave the people so much that they threw up," he is seen as saying in the video.

"But, we believe that we have given the state to the Congress on lease for five years. After that, we will take it from them. Now, the people will come to know what they have voted for. They will realise what is right and what is wrong," he added.

In the recently-conducted assembly polls, the SAD-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alliance suffered a humiliating loss at the hands of the Congress, which went ahead to secure an absolute majority in the state with 77 seats in the 117-member assembly.
