The results from the Assembly elections in five states - Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Manipur, Goa and Uttarakhand - are out today. Watch this space for big victories and defeats of prominent candidates in these five states.

5:55 pm: Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar resigns | PTI

5:16 pm: Y Irabot Singh of BJP has lost in Manipur in Wangkei to Congress' Okram Henry Singh.

5:15 pm: In UP's Amethi, a key constituency for Congress, Garima Singh of BJP won with 64, 226 votes, trailed by Gayatri Prasad of SP with 59, 161 votes. Congress has lost all four seats in Amethi, and BJP has won three, reports PTI.

5:05 pm: Aparna Yadav, Mulayam Singh Yadav's daughter-in-law lost out from Lucknow Cantt constituency with 61, 606 votes to BJPs Reeta Joshi who won 95, 402 votes.

4:30 pm: Sangeet Singh Som of the BJP won in his constituency in Sardhana with 97, 921 votes, beating Atul Pradhan of SP who came in second at 76, 296 votes.

4:15 pm: Shivpal Yadav, brother of Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav, has won from the Jaswantnagar constituency with 126, 834 votes, comfortably beating Manish Yadav Patre of the BJP who garnered 74, 218 votes.

4:00 pm: In Manipur, 'Iron Lady' Irom Chanu Sharmila reportedly said she won't contest elections again. Sharmila lost badly in her debut elections with only 90 people voting for her.

3:45 pm: Y Irabot Singh of BJP is trailing in Manipur in Wangkei behind Congress' Okram Henry Singh. Irabot Singh was formerly with the Congress party but jumped ship to BJP last year.

3:15 pm: In Manipur, former football player and journalist N Biren Singh of BJP has won from Heingang constituency, narrowly beating Pangeijam Sarat Chandra Singh of All India Trinamool Congress who got 9,233 votes.

3:00 pm: Harish Rawat of Congress has lost in Kichha in Uttarkhand with 38, 236 votes, not too far behind Rajesh Shukla of the BJP who won 40, 363 votes. Rawat also lost in the Hardwar rural constituency with 32, 686 votes to Yatishwaranand of the BJP who took 44, 964 votes.

01:11 pm: In Punjab, Parkash Singh Badal of SAD has won from Lambi constituency with 66,375 votes, beating Amarinder Singh of Congress who got 43,605 votes.

01:00 pm: Harish Rawat loses Haridwar (rural) in Uttarakhand, according to media reports.

11:55 am: Former Goa Chief Minister Pratap Singh Rane of Congress has won in the Poriem constituency, beating Vishwajit Krishnarao Rane of the BJP.

11:54 am: In Goa, Congress Party's Francisco Manuel Silveira wins from St. Andre constituency, beating Ramrao Sarya Naik Wagh of BJP.

11:45 am: Okram Ibobi Singh - 18,649 votes, BJP's Leitanthem Basanta Singh - 8179 and Irom Sharmila Chanu - 90: Election Commission as of 11:45 am.

11:37 am: SAD's Sukhbir Singh Badal leading in Jalalabad, AAP's Bhagwant Mann trailing.

11:34 am: In Gorakhpur (urban) constituency, BJP's Dr.Radha Mohan Das Agrawal is leading.

11:27 am: Former Goa Chief Minister Pratap Singh Rane of Congress is leading in the Poriem constituency. Rane served as the chief minister of Goa for six terms between 1980 and 2005.

11:19 am: Sangeet Som ahead of SP rival Atul Pradhan by a margin of 8,000 votes in Sardhana seat.

11:11 am: SAD's Bikram Singh Majithia leading in Majithia constituency.

11:07 am: AAP's H.S. Phoolka trailing SAD's Manpreet Ayali in Dakha. Phoolka is a human rights activist who has led several legal battles relating to the anti-Sikh riots over three decades.

10:25 am: Irom Sharmila loses to INC's Okram Ibobi Singh in Thoubal. Leitanthem Basanta Singh of BJP is the runner up.

10:23 am: SAD's Sukhbir Singh Badal leading from Jalalabad.

10:10 am: BJP's Ved Prakash Gupta is leading in Ayodhya. Gupta has the distinction of being with all the four mainstream parties (Congress, BJP, BSP, and SP) during the past 30 years or so. "Ideology is important, but sometimes circumstances take over. You don't always dictate. Sometimes life dictates you," he told HuffPost India.

9:51 am: BJP's Rita Bahuguna Joshi leading in Lucknow. She was previously with the Congress Party. "The Muslims are hurt. I have assured them that they should not doubt my association. They may not trust my party so much, but they trust me," she told HuffPost India.

9:41 am: INC's Okram Ibobi Singh leading in Thoubal in Manipur. He is the thrice-elected Manipur CM from Congress. He has held that position since 7 March 2002.

9:36 am: BJP's RK Singh Patel leading in Manekpur in UP. He is contesting against INC's Sampat Pal Devi, leader of the Gulabi Gang in Bundelkhand. Patel was previously with the Bahujan Samaj Party. "People never learn, they vote for the wrong leaders again and again. If they don't choose properly, can they blame anyone else for their miserable condition," Pal told HuffPost India, earlier this month.

9:14 am: INC's Harish Rawat leading in Kichha. He is presently the chief minister of Uttarakhand. The five-time MP was the Union Minister of Water Resources in the Manmohan Singh cabinet.

9:11 am: Manpreet Singh Badal leading in Bathinda (Urban). Badal told HuffPost India that if the Congress comes to power then the army will be called to combat the drug problem. "The condition is radical, it will require a radical solution," he said.

9:00 am: Samajwadi Party's (SP) Shivpal Yadav leading in Jaswantnagar.

9:00 am: Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Sangeet Som leading in Sardhana. The sitting MLA from the western constituency on polarizing issues as 'Love Jihad'. "When a boy loves a girl that is love. When a boy lies to a girl and loves her that is jihad. His name will be Hafiz Saeed and he will say his name is Rahul," he told HuffPost India.
